Gov. Thomas E. Dewey, who left Juneau yesterday in an Air Force plane for Anchorage, is mad at Collier's Magazine for revealing that "we helped finance his trip."

The national magazine announced that Dewey will write six articles on his trip to the Orient and Alaska, but refused to divulge how much they would pay him. But Louis Ruppel, editor, made the statement to the Associated Press.

The North American Newspaper Alliance, a news service in the states, revealed the Dewey ire in a story appearing in various newspapers dated Aug. 22, but delayed in transmittal.

Met With GOP

No word has been received yet on the New York governor's trip to the Interior. But late yesterday it was revealed here that he met informally with a small group of Juneau Republicans to talk over Alaska problems regarding politics, economics, revenues, forest reserves and matters pertaining to statehood.

He seemed anxious, according to Republican National Committee-woman Mrs. Al White, to obtain all information possible concerning the Territory. The meeting took place shortly before he spoke before the Chamber of Commerce.

Trip Details

In the meantime, details concerning his trip on the yacht Manana II were learned by The Empire.

Accompanying Dewey to Ketchikan were Governor Gruening, his aide, Capt. Don Morrison, Burke Riley, administrative assistant to Gruening and Paul Lockwood, Ray I. Borst and E. M. Galvin of Governor Dewey's party. They were flown in a Fish and Wildlife Service plane piloted by Regional Director Clarence Rhode.

A noon stop was made at Waterfall salmon cannery where the party were luncheon guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Friele. Friele is vice president of the Nakat Packing Corp. Also present was W. C. Arnold, managing director of the Alaska Salmon Industry who after the luncheon flew from Waterfall to Ketchikan with the party.

Sees 'Em Canned

Governor Dewey was taken all through the cannery, in full operation, to show him how Alaska's salmon are put in the can.

Arriving in Ketchikan, Dewey was taken on a tour of the town and to Ward's Cove where the $40,000,000 pulp mill will be established. Although Dewey did not appear to speak publicly, he was guest of honor at a cocktail party at the home of Ketchikan's mayor, George Beck, and later attended a Smorgaasbord at the Elks Club.

Dewey was presented with a case of canned Alaska seafood, put up by Charlotte Speegle in Ketchikan,

in charge of the home demonstration work for the University of Alaska.
Thursday morning Dewey went salmon fishing on the yacht Manana II, with William Bates, vice president of the Miners and Merchants Bank, Mel Roe, president of the Ketchikan Republican Club and Herb Hearthton, Ketchikan merchant, as hosts.
Thursday night was spent on board the Fish and Wildlife Service vessel Brant, anchored in Tracy Arm. They arrived there around 5 p.m. Three miles away from the ship pilot Rhode was forced to land on the water and taxi due to lowering overcast.
Dewey expressed his gratitude to Rhode for what he said was his first real rest in eight days. A quiet evening was enjoyed with everyone "turning in" early.
Governor Gruening said Dewey was to be entertained at breakfast by the Anchorage Republican Club this morning and a luncheon guest of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce at noon.
Sunday he was scheduled to be flown to Kotzebue to attend the dedication of an airport there and would return to Anchorage by way of McKinley National Park. Monday he was to visit Palmer and Kodiak.
