Full Text

The situation at Washington is highly interesting. Stanton has the inside track in the Secretary of War imbroglio. With a law of Congress directly in his favor, he rests his occupation upon the law and makes his appeal to the Courts. If Mr. Johnson does not submit to this, if he attempts any forcible removal, he becomes a violator of law, usurps extra-Judicial power, and puts himself so clearly in the wrong that he will be impeached at once.

At the present stage of the proceedings we say nothing; we await developments.
