MENTZ. (in Germany) Jan. 5.

To what a degree wickedness may be practised, the following Tragedy will inform us. A Shoemaker of this place, whilst he was measuring an innocent country Girl's foot, taking some harmless liberty with her, was perceived by his wife. A few days afterwards, the girl came for her shoes, when unfortunately the master not being at home, the wife, full of jealousy and revenge, took a knife and instantly cut the unhappy girl's throat; after which she cut off her breasts and dressed them for her husband's dinner, who when he came home, eat with an uncommon appetite, what his wife had provided him, and asked her where she got that delicious meal? to which she answered, Eat your fill and be contented therewith, know they are the breasts of the cursed country girl you would have enjoyed; if you go into the garret you may there have your will of her. The despairing husband hastened thither, and with the same knife which was reaking with the blood of the murder'd girl, stabbed his wife to the heart; after which he made a voluntary ample confession of this whole tragedy, and gave himself up to justice.
