J. I. Tautrok, a teacher by profession, residing in Lampey, near Jersey City, died yesterday afternoon, with all the symptoms of hydrophobia, in its alarming character. In the morning of last August, he was playing with a little puppy dog, belonging to the house, which was a plaything for his little boy, and it bit him slightly in the thumb. The pup was immediately killed, and nothing more was thought of the affair until Sunday morning last, when a slight pain in the thumb attracted his notice, with a red streak which gradually ascended up the armpit. He was in a good deal of pain with it until Saturday evening, when on offering to him a tumbler of water, he was seized with spasms which continued to increase violently up to Monday morning.

It was only the dread produced in his mind on the tumbler of water being presented to him that alarmed him and the family, and brought to their recollection the incident of last August. The spasms violently increased. During the interval he conversed freely with his friends, and told some of them on Monday morning that he had lived four hours longer than he had anticipated. He begged them to tie him, which was done upon the occasion of another spasm in which he frothed and foamed dreadfully at the mouth, and thus continued in the most horrid agonies, at intervals lucid, until death closed the mournful scene. We do not know who were his medical attendants, and have derived these particulars from one of his friends. The deceased was in the prime of life, of respectable character, and has left a wife and two children.
