TO ERR IS HUMAN
It has been written that "to err is human: to forgive, divine."
As far as this may apply to errors committed by the weak and sinful flesh, we suppose that it is all okay. But when the error is one committed against the peace and dignity and welfare of a person's own being, physical-not spiritual, we cannot see that forgiveness will cut much ice in the ultimate outcome.
For instance, with the thermometer flirting with the mid-summer mark, even in these March days, we cannot understand wherein any forgiveness of the error of donning the light-weight unmentionables, male and female, will be divine enough to stop the cold contracted when the mercury falls to its normal level, or to cause the undertaker to hesitate after the doctor, the middle man in the case, shall have issued his certificate to the effect that death resulted from "natural causes."
Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, friends, fellow citizens, Democrats and misguided ones, we urge upon you not to emulate our own personal example, we plead with you not to do as we have done, we implore you to sweat and bear with them for a few days more, or until the glad springtime, with its buds and flowers, with its green leaves and greener grasses, with its fleas and bigger bites shall really be here.
Remember, the light-weights may be intoxicatingly joyful these pleasant days, and also remember that the final outcome of intoxication, in any form, must wind up on a bed of pain and a short, swift drive after the flowers have been sent by sorrowing friends.
