Wife Murderer Found Guilty of Manslaughter
Judge Told Him He Was Lucky to Get Off So Easily
Not Probable That an Appeal Will Be Taken
Minot, N. D., Aug. 5.-John Staff was sentenced this morning at Towner by Judge Burr to ten years in the state prison. He showed no signs of feeling whatever. The judge said little but told Staff he was lucky to receive such a light sentence as the jury had by the manslaughter verdict virtually expressed the belief that Stan knew his wife was in the barrel and might have returned a verdict of murder in the first degree. Attorney Sinkler for the defense may appeal, though it is not likely and he must take the initial steps in ten days. Staff's sentence was set to begin this noon.
