Full Text

The county Democratic executive committee met in Lexington Tuesday morning at the call of T. C. Callison, county chairman, and mapped out an itinerary for the campaign party, fixed assessments, etc.

No doubt the most far-reaching action taken by the committee was that of abolishing the primary in so far as magistrates are concerned. Under the law magistrates must be appointed by the governor even though they receive a majority vote in the election. The executive committee took the view that the primary, under the circumstances, was useless, and discontinued the primary for magistrates.

The county campaign will open at Summerland July 21 and will continue at intervals through August 27. The time for filing pledges will be up Tuesday, July 20, at 12 o'clock noon.

The following campaign meetings were arranged by the committee: Summerland July 21, Climax school house July 22, Pelion July 28, morning; Red Bank July 28, night; Gilbert July 29, morning; Cayce July 30, night; Brookland August 14; Gaston August 17; Swansea August 20; Steedman August 21; Pine Ridge August 26; Chapin August 27. There is no scheduled meeting for the county seat.

The committee placed the assessment as follows: House of representatives $40; auditor $75; treasurer $75; judge of probate $75; commissioner $100. The winner in all cases to pay 50 per cent additional.
