New York, November 12.

Boundary Lane.—As stated in a Montreal paper some time since, that the commissioners appointed under the sixth article of the treaty, could not agree on the boundary line; consequently it was to be left to some friendly sovereign. We are gratified to be enabled to state that the information from Montreal is not correct. The commissioners, gen. Porter and Mr. Barclay, were to have had a meeting in Utica, in September last, but owing to the indisposition of the latter gentleman, the meeting was postponed, and finally adjourned to be held in the city of New York this day. Gen. Porter came down in the last steam boat as far as West Point, and expected to reach this city to day. The officers under the commission, required to attend the board, are, col. Hale, H. B. M.'s agent; Joseph D. Lafield, Esq. U. S. agent; major Fraser, secretary; J. Bigsley, Esq. M. D. assistant secretary; D. Thompson, Esq. British astronomer and surveyor, and William Bird, Esq. U. S. astronomer and surveyor.—from the information we have received, we believe the commissioners will agree to the boundary line at this meeting, and that a report of the same will be speedily communicated to the respective governments. It is of great importance to the inhabitants on both sides, that the boundary line should be known. At present considerable excitement exists on the northern frontier. In one instance, an island in the river St. Lawrence called Carlton Island, had been leased to Mr. Charles Smyth, and the Post Master General had established a post office on the island, of which S. was post master. He had erected a number of buildings on the island, and made considerable improvement in agriculture, &c. A short time ago Mr. Lege nan, the collector of the customs at Kingston went to Carlton Island with a party of officers and took from Mr. Smyth a large quantity of merchandise, seizing it in behalf of the crown, on the ground that the island belonged to Great Britain.
