Fillmore Must be Elected or the Un. ION BE DissolveD.
To any one who calmly surveys the field of politics, as now mapped out between the contending parties, the conclusion is irresistible that unless Millard Fillmore is elected President of the United States in November next, the Union will be dissolved in less than four years.
If Fremont be elected, the South will be exasperated beyond endurance by the measures which will indubitably and of necessity characterize the administration of a Black- Republican, and practical Disunionist, such as his published declarations show him to be.
If Buchanan be chosen, it is admitted that his administration will be but a continuation of that of Franklin Pierce. who found the country free from all exciting questions, and has already brought it to the verge of anarchy. It is plain too, that he will foster and cherish the Free Soil Democracy of the North and the Disunion Democracy of the South. Now if Democratic administration of our public affairs, has, in three years and a half, by an unwise and treacherous policy. brought the Union to death's door, what may be expected of a continuation of that administration for eight years? The answer is plain. The jacobinical and fanatical spirits of the North and South cannot be longer countenanced as they will be if Buchanan is elected, without sealing the fate of the Republic.
These are words of truth and soberness. and we solemnly ask every conservative, Union-loving man in the land, by whatever party name he may be known, to read, ponder and decide for his country and for the Union of our fathers.
