Full Text
The design for the new North Dakota state capitol building has been accepted by the state capitol building commission in Bismarck, and architects were ordered to proceed with the working out of plans and specifications for a building that will be featured by distinctly modern treatment.
Following a long study of the problems involved in the construction, the business type building was accepted as the one which will meet every requirement of the state. The frontage of the new statehouse will be 390 feet, with the capitol unit to the west and the administration unit rising at the east end to a height of 234 feet, comprising 18 stories.
The new building will provide a floor space of 130,000 square feet, whereas the old building, which was destroyed by fire several months ago, contained but 65,000 square feet. In its initial cost, the type of building adopted is far below the costs involved in the construction of the monumental or dome type building and it has the added advantage of being low in maintenance cost in years to come.
