Heat Wave and Storms Hover Over the East

NEW YORK—The heat wave still hovers over the eastern United States although thunder showers had broken its reign temporarily Saturday night. Nine more deaths attributed to the weather were reported in New York district. Storms have again swept over parts of the city and have done great damage, especially to the fine residences of wealthy Long Island. Two men were killed outright by heat. One was killed in fall from a window and a half dozen others were drowned at various bathing resorts where they had taken refuge from the stifling temperature. Coney Island was said to have welcomed the greatest throng in its history. More than a million persons milled around its streets and boardwalks. Rockaway Beach was jammed with 500,000 visitors.
