Miss Bertha Ellinger, Supervisor of Education for the Alaska Native Service, returned last weekend from a two-months field trip in the Second Division. Miss Ellinger met with the Village Councils and Boards of Education in each village and assisted the teachers in development of curriculum including emphasis on Alaska life, use of native foods, and working in local industries. There are many new teachers working in village schools and Miss Ellinger assisted in the in-service training of teachers and supervised the setting up of health and welfare programs, which are emphasized in native school work.

On her two-month field trip, Miss Ellinger visited schools at Kotzebue, White Mountain, Golovin, Shaktoolik, Deering, Elfin Point, Selawik, Shungnak, and Noatak.
