JACK DUNN PENNANT WINNING RECORD.
If you are looking around for baseball's miracle man, don't overlook Jack Dunn, manager of the Baltimore team of the International league.
Back in 1914, after the Boston Braves had won the National league pennant and downed the Philadelphia Athletics four in a row in the world's series, George Stallings was heralded as a "miracle man."
But George Stallings never did anything over a stretch of years to compare with that of Jack Dunn.
Stallings Success Short.
Boston in 1914 had three great pitchers, Dick Rudolph, Bill James and George Tyler. They pitched Stallings and his men to the flag in the stretch drive during August and September. Thereafter Stallings did nothing and he has had little success in bucking Jack Dunn as manager of Rochester in the International.
Dunn's run of pennants started back in 1919, when he captured the pennant with 100 victories and 49 defeats, a percentage of .671. And since that time he has won six more pennants, giving him seven flag winners in a row, which is something of a record.
Dunn a Miracle Man.
Maybe it's a world's record in these days when competition is so keen. It's a certainty a flag winner has a tough time the next year, but Dunn seems to have a way of always coming out on top.
Maybe some day Dunn's run of champions in the International, one of the three Class AA minor circuits, will end, but nevertheless Dunn will have to be ranked with the great managers and also as a "miracle man."
