In Better Balance
ATLANTA—Painting a vivid picture of a prosperous future for the South as a result of the industrial development in this section of the country, Gov. Herman Talmadge, in addressing the recent first annual meeting of the Georgia Automotive Wholesalers Assn. in Atlanta, declared that the eyes of industrial leaders throughout the nation are on Georgia and on the progress this state has made in recent years toward balancing agriculture with industry. Said he:
"We have seen a practical demonstration of the value of balanced agricultural and industrial development this summer.
When our farming sections were suffering from the unprecedented drought conditions the money poured into trade channels by the new industries helped maintain the general progress of the section.
"These industries employed large numbers of people and the taxes they paid helped keep up the state's income which otherwise suffered serious deficiencies because of the inability of the farmers to get the usual returns from their farms . . .
The very fact that we are growing at such a rapid rate means that new markets are being developed in this section of the South, hence the businessmen and manufacturers of the country are deeply interested in this marvelous record of growth."
