A man named William Rushworth has been arrested in Philadelphia and held to bail for a further hearing on suspicion of having stolen the sum of $2,500 from the runner of the Long Island Bank, in the month of June, 1842, while crossing the East River, from Brooklyn to New York. It appears that a $1000 note, taken from the runner, was lately received by the Phoenix Bank from the Union Bank, the latter receiving it from one of its depositors, Mr. Samuel Shaw, of New York, an importer. Daniel Emsbury, Esq., Cashier of the Long Island Bank, who was examined before Mayor Scott, stated that Mr. Shaw had received it from Mr. Rushworth, which caused him to be arrested.
