VICTIM OF SPANISH MAQUIS
SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain, May 5. (UP)--Paulino Uzcudun, former heavyweight boxer, who once fought T/Sgt. Joe Louis for the world championship, has been reported killed by Spanish Maquis, his former manager Justo Oyarzabal said Saturday.
Uzcudun, who was known as the "Basque Woodchopper" fought Louis at Madison Square Garden in New York on December 13, 1935 and was knocked out in four rounds. Previously, he won and lost decisions against former heavyweight champion Max Schmeling, beating him in Barcelona in 1934 and losing at Berlin in 1935.
