Esqueda Brothers carnival arrived in Douglas on Saturday morning and unloaded at the old race track carnival grounds behind the Y. M. C. A. A striped Shetland pony, one of the prized performers of the carnival immediately pulled up his picket stake and departed.
Deputy sheriffs were notified and a general alarm was sounded. The pony was sighted near the International airport going east during Saturday afternoon but has not been seen since. The little animal is described as being brown with white spots, a sort of pinto, very beautiful and highly intelligent.
Esqueda Brothers are doing everything possible in an effort to recover the animal. It is feared that he wandered into heavy brush somewhere and got his halter rope tangled so that he may be held fast away from water or food in which case he will not survive many days at this season of the year.
Deputy sheriffs spent several hours yesterday driving about the country near Douglas making inquiries concerning the animal but without result. It is believed that the pony went east.
