Full Text

David Haughs, head of the government nursery, who arrived home in the Kinau from Hilo Saturday, reports very favorably on the forests in Puna, Olaa and Hilo. He states that he went to the Volcano and then around Hakalau way. The forests are in excellent condition. The most interesting thing noted was the growth of thousands of ohia trees in the flow of 1840. The new trees in Puna are coming up in fine shape and it looks as if that district would be amply supplied with trees for many years to come, since the places where the forests are growing the thickest are in spots which cannot be cultivated.
