As a result of the strike call of the publicity committee of the Harlem Tenants' League on July 1, as Richard B. Moore, president of the league pointed out in the following statement issued last night, "The rent sharks have already backed down where they have been met by a united front of the tenants. In some houses of the Terry Holding Company and Nail & Park, they have accepted rent at the old rate."
The tenants in an apartment house at 550 E. 133d St., were thrown into a state of war Saturday night as a result of the fourth attempt to kill Alfred Jackson, Negro ice wagon driver. The gangsters broke into Jackson's apartment where they tore down the electric wires.
The Tenants League are holding a meeting tonight at 8:00 P. M. at the Public Library, 103 W. 135th St. William Weinstone, District Organizer of the Communist Party will speak.
