Democratic National Chairman McCormick is back from Chicago, confident Wilson will win and will carry New York, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.

Representative Woods of Iowa, Chairman of the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee, predicts a Republican majority in the next House of at least twenty-seven, and says Republicans have an even chance of controlling the Senate.

Straw vote of faculty of Hamilton College, Elihu Root's alma mater, gave Wilson 13 and Hughes 8 votes, while Yale vote was: Hughes, 1,326, and Wilson, 599.

Dr. William Heinecke, a prominent German-American of this city, has issued a 1,500-word appeal to German-Americans to vote for Wilson.

Ex-President Taft will speak at the Amsterdam Opera House at 8 P. M. and at Yonkers at 9.30 to-morrow and at Union Square Saturday afternoon.

Three committees, located next to Republican National headquarters, are trying to land the Danish-American, Norwegian-American and Swedish-American vote for Mr. Hughes.

In his first reference to the Presidency, Senator La Follette said "You ought to settle it between yourself, your conscience and your God."

Wisconsin is betting 10 to 4 La Follette will be re-elected. He has refused to indorse Hughes.

Republican leaders say they expect 70,000 in Hughes torchlight parade Saturday night. Torchlight record is 80,000. Mr. Hughes will make a brief speech Saturday at day meetings at Twenty-sixth Street and Broadway, Union Square, No. 350 Broadway and No. 221 Broadway.

Republican State Chairman Bugbee of New Jersey says that State will go Republican by between 40,000 and 50,000.

Brig. Gen. Edwin L. Hayes, oldest living General of the United States Army, who will be ninety-seven next month, has registered in Verona, N. J. He has voted for every Republican Presidential nominee since Fremont.

The Hughes National College League has a banner at Fifth Avenue and Forty-fifth Street, saying:

Should the dogs of war break loose.
What could we not withstand,
With Daniels on the water
And Baker on the land

The Journal, official organ of the Knights of Labor, in its issue to-day in Washington, advocates the re-election of President Wilson, declaring that Hughes, if elected, will force this country into war, taking "the young men of the country from mother, from wife, from sister and from sweethearts and make them targets for the bullets of foreigners."
