Tombigbee Improvement.

The services of Mr. J. J. McIntire, a gentleman of fine diplomatic attainments, has been secured by the Aberdeen Business League, to canvass the population residing along both sides of the Tombigbee river, from Aberdeen to Walker's Bridge, to secure co-operation in having the channel of that river made navigable to that point. The object of the league is to get expression, over the signatures of the numerous residents and business men along the stream, of their approval of the plan. and, also, to stipulate the vast tonnage of various commercial and farm products that would be moved from Aberdeen to Walker's bridge, in case the river were opened up and the boat line put into operation.

The object of the league in prosecuting this canvass, is to secure indisputable evidence of the great necessity of opening the channel of the river from this point to that, in order that an undeveloped section of the country may be speedily developed.

The people residing along this river have no railroads or other means of transportation in keeping with the intensity of the times, and are signally inconvenienced and retarded in keeping pace with progress They are entitled to the utmost consideration of the National government. and to this end the efforts of the Aberdeen Business League are directed.

The results of the canvass of Mr. McIntire will be embodied in a bundle of evidence to be submitted through Hon. E. S. Candler, our representative to the National Congress to enlighten it and to secure a liberal appropriation for improvement of the river from Aberdeen to Walker's Bridge.

Mr. Candler. in the past, has been indefatigable in his efforts to secure appropriations to make the Tombigbee navigable.and his efforts have accomplished much for improvement of the channel below Columbus. He has striven to do something for this end of the stream but has been handicapped because wanting in just such data as the Business League is now collecting. and which it is hoped. will enable him to secure adequate appropriation.

The efforts of the league, in this case, are directed along practical lines: for nothing would bless that section more, and turn upon it,in full volume. the progress which its resources entitle it to than to make the Tombigbee river navigable to Walker's Bridge. God intended it so. and it is the duty of man and the National Congress to make it so, by giving the finishing touches.

Let every Aberdeenian and every person interested put his shoulders to the wheel and co-operate for the development of this section of God's country.
