The War Over!
The Washington Union, in reviewing an excellent article in the Ohio Statesman, on the subject of the unity of the Democracy, says:
"The Ohio Statesman thinks it can not be questioned that a thorough union of the democracy in the ensuing session of Congress is above all things necessary to the well being of the country and to the safety of the democratic cause. Nothing is more true than this opinion of the Statesman. It is of great importance to the country and to the success of the democratic cause that our internal strifes should cease, and the great party which fought gloriously unto victory in 1856, should again present a united and harmonious front to the common enemy."
That is the right kind of talk, and "better late than never." Good counsels are prevailing in our organization, and we now have an earnest of the glorious future of the Democracy. Let democrats everywhere fraternize, and go to work. Our energies should be devoted to the overthrow of our enemies, and not to tearing down of our National Organization.
The internal war is over, we have peace in our borders. Let our watchword be onward to victory.
