FOR THE STANDARD.

Mr. Editor: In contemplating the glorious Democratic Republican Triumphs in the States of Maine, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, we cannot suppress our grateful feelings; for it is sufficient to make every patriot leap with joy, to see how nobly these States have come out in defence of the Constitution and Laws of our republican government. They have done enough to immortalize their names; and every patriot will remember this era, in all future time. The federal journals are quite astonished at the result. But, Mr. Editor, I believe that the time is very near, when the federal bank "whigs" will be like the tories of the revolution, ashamed to confess their dislike to their own country. I hope I may live to see this; for they have clamored ever since the revolution; and the opponents of Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, and Jackson, were the same in principle with those that oppose the present patriotic administration. So eager are they to get into power, that they stoop to the vilest means to carry their point. I cannot suppress my emotions, when I see my fellow citizens duped by the misrepresentations, and imposed upon by the slang of federalism.

If every honest man will look for proof before he believes the assertions of the federal papers, their followers would be few. It is astonishing how they can defame a man who has done every thing within his power for his country. They are doing this almost every day, and what, it may be asked, is their object? Why, because a majority of them had rather see the country ruled by a National Bank than by a patriotic President and Congress; and their particular aim is to deceive the honest and unsuspecting laborers of our country. But, Mr. Editor, we now see a prospect of their being disappointed in their wicked designs.
