Major General Izard being now the senior officer in the army of the Niagara, the command of course devolves on him.
From the Canandaigua Repository, of Oct. 18.
FROM THE WEST.
No recent events on the Niagara. Gen. Izard has crossed into Canada, from Black Rock. It was reported that a British reinforcement of about 2000 men, was approaching Fort George, via Burlington.
About 450 U States troops passed through this village last Thursday, on their way to the Niagara frontier.
From the Canandaigua Messenger, Oct. 18.
In the course of the last week, the armies of Gens. Brown and Izard formed a junction at Black Rock, on the opposite side of the Niagara, and on Friday last, marched down the river to meet the enemy, who it is believed, has taken shelter in his strong holds.
From the Herkimer American of Oct. 20.
Nothing has taken place on the lines since our last of importance. On Thursday week the British fleet came out as far as the Ducks, fired near 200 guns, and returned to Kingston. It is conjectured that instead of an attack, upon the Harbor at present, an attempt will be made to succour Gen. Drummond and cut off Generals Izard and Brown. We understand that Gen. Izard's army had crossed into Canada, and that the two armies united, had marched in the direction of Chippewa. It is also said that the enemy have evacuated Queenston and retired to Burlington heights. Gen. Izard by rank, is commander in chief of our troops.
