Full Text

Mr. Printer--

Being told by my neighbor Maxwell, who went down to Portsmouth with a load of pork t'other day, (they say pork an't doing so well now, or I guess I should go down myself) being told, I say, that Mr. Evans, of Greece, is about coming home to March meeting, I want you to keep an eye to when he does come, and ask him to give us a good long account about his travels, and what they are doing in Greece, and how the markets are there, and how pork is doing. I want to know whether the Turks have got so as to eat pork when they can't do better--we'll say between that and dead folks--human-kind as 'twere. I want to know, too, whether they don't have caucuses and liberty-poles about Greece, and whether they an't wanting some candidates for Governor or Congress, and why he didn't stay when he'd got there, and made such a fuss about being shipp'd off. At any rate, don't forget to ask him about the pork--and tell him to write any thing else that's worth knowing, and tell him to print a long account in your or Mr. Hill's paper, as our neighbors all want to see it, and don't take the Bay State papers, or down about Portsmouth.

Yours to serve,

J*** S*****.

Kearsarge, Feb. 14, 1826.

We have taken the liberty to correct the spelling and punctuation of our correspondent S.--and would inform him that the gentleman referred to, if he means, as he probably does, Estwicke Evans, Esq. of Portsmouth, has--for good and substantial reasons, doubtless--returned to this country--having arrived at Boston, on Sunday last, in the ship Sally-Ann, from Smyrna. If Mr. E. should see our friend's letter, and think it worth the while to gratify his curiosity by a reply, we should cheerfully publish any communication he might make.
