Valley Red Cross Chapter Work Well Underway

Organization work of the Buckeye Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross was practically completed at a meeting held Tuesday night at the Legion hall.

The following committee chairmen were appointed: Life Saving, Lawrence Hardesty; Junior Red Cross, A. L. Mercer; Home Hygiene, Mrs. Vogel Jeffery; Volunteer Service, Mrs. T. E. Moss; Roll Call, L. D. McDonald; Public Information, Mrs. D. F. Johnson, Jr.; Disaster Relief, John P. VanDenburgh; Home Service, J. G. Goodman; First Aid, J. A. Blazer.

These chairmen, along with Mrs. Earl Herring and the chapter officers make up the Executive Board. The officers are as follows: Dr. G. C. Rubel, chairman; Mrs. Herbert Hegarty, vice chairman; Mrs. Leonard Parker, treasurer; D. F. Johnson, Jr., secretary. Names of other chairmen and members who will serve on above committees will be announced in the near future.

Mrs. Warren Wolf, chairman of branch organization and Mrs. Ione Mae Chase, executive secretary of Maricopa County Chapter, both of Phoenix were present and instructed the chairmen in the various duties of their committees. They congratulated the Chapter on the efficient manner in which the work is so rapidly being gotten underway.

Mrs. T. E. Moss, chairman of volunteer service, distributed various garments for sewing, and Mrs. Ricka Wolf distributed the yarn and needles for knitting. According to Mrs. Moss, garments to be made consist of surgical gowns, women's and children's dresses, convalescent robes and layettes. Mrs. Moss urges all women in the valley, who can sew, and who wish to do their part in this urgent work of the Red Cross, get in touch with her as soon as possible. She also announces in this connection that, on Friday, July 12, there will be a sewing day at the Legion hall, at which time additional sewing will be given out to those unable to contact her previous to that time. Mrs. Wolf asks that all those who knit or crochet, please call her as soon as possible for, there is a very urgent call for those who do this work. Those women who wish to learn knitting or crocheting, instructions will be given. It is emphasized that all needles, yarn and materials are furnished.

Chairman Dr. G. C. Rubel asks the cooperation of everyone in the valley, who wishes to do his or her part in helping to alleviate, to some degree, the suffering and misery of those unfortunate people in Europe, to volunteer their services to the Red Cross. There is work for everyone.
