Full Text
The Spring Elections.
It has been now a great many years since a political revolution similar to that just passed through has taken place in this country. As will be seen elsewhere in this issue, the Democrats have made gains in some localities, while in others they have swept the radicals from the field "stock, lock and barrel." The reaction is confined to no section and no locality, but manifests itself in all parts of the North, from Connecticut to Kansas.
Connecticut.
The glorious news from Connecticut which we announced in our last issue is confirmed, and every lover of old Jeffersonian principles can now rejoice from the fullness of his heart that the tide is turning against those who would, if they dared and were further upheld, turn our country into a vast military camp, and not only dictate how we should vote but, as in Massachusetts, what we should eat and drink. The result, we feel sure, is "but the beginning of the end" and in our next State election Wisconsin will send greeting to the old Nutmeg State.
