Marriage under Difficulties.
A queer affair happened not long since in this city. A young man, it seems, took a fancy to a rather stylish looking shop-girl, and they were soon engaged to be married. The parties met at the Church for the purpose of being united. While awaiting the arrival of the minister, which they did in the porch of the church, a tailor stepped up to the bridegroom and presented a bill for his wedding coat. The bill must be paid at once, or the coat returned. Now it was rather a difficult thing for the bridegroom to pay for the coat, for he had not a dollar saving that which he had laid aside for the clergyman. Again he had the coat on his back, and if he permitted the tailor to take it he would be compelled to marry in his shirt sleeves. A friend who he had invited to witness the ceremony, seeing his discomfiture, advanced the requisite sum, and the tailor departed. But all trouble was by no means at an end. The parties had hardly left the altar, on the completion of the ceremony, when a stout, coarse woman made her way up to the bride and presented her bill for the wedding dress. The friend again advanced money and the woman departed. We call this getting married under difficulties.—Phil. Enquirer.
