DUBLIN, February 27.

With reluctance we announce the report of a misfortune as sudden and unexpected as ever agitated the public mind—no less than the premature recall of the most popular chief governor* of this country was ever favored with, and the consequent removal of the men who possessed and deserved the confidence of the people. This measure is calculated to depress the spirit of the nation, it is difficult to account for! Lately there was hope, that the hitherto ill-fated inhabitants of this country would be shortly relieved from the grievances they laboured under. The government proposed most salutary measures, and Parliament seemed inclined to adopt them; in the interim a vote is passed for an enormous sum of money to carry on the war. That being obtained, measures, it is said, were proposed to his excellency, which excited his indignation, and, of course, his resignation. This business has caused a general alarm and despondency; so great was the public expectation on the happy effects of his lordship's wise and well intentioned government, supported by men whose tried and patriotic energy has long gained them the confidence of the country.
