[The following extract from a letter in the New York Herald, written at Boston, and giving an account of the celebration of the anniversary of the birth-day of General Jackson, is worthy of particular attention. It appears that the Van Buren leaders had determined that the celebration should be a Van Buren affair, and when they attempted to make their demonstration, it was an utter failure-but a few dozen attending. On the other hand, the Democracy, almost en masse, rallied to the meeting which is alluded to by the Herald's correspondent.]

The most remarkable feature in this affair, however, to my mind, is the fact that this event is in truth the grand opening of the Tyler campaign in this quarter!

You may rely on it, that from the seventy-seventh birth day of the renowned and justly honored Jackson-the existing administration will date the commencement of the grand onslaught which is determined by its friends in this region shall be carried into the enemy's camp. The occasion to which I have briefly referred, gave rise to a variety of patriotic speeches, sentiments, &c., the burden of which, seemed to me, inclined most directly towards Tylerism! But the published accounts will give you the best idea of the matter.
