A NAP IN THE MORNING.
Though poetry has rain'd,
And its utmost powers strain'd.
In tobacco, snuff and toddy adorning ;
Yet there's no pleasure so sweet,
So nice and complete,
As a snug little nap in the morning:
A sound little nap,
A sweet little nap,
A snug little nap in the morning.
How dear to the head
That goes aching to bed,
After a night of hard smoking and corning,
Is the ease which it feels
That over it steals.
From a dear little nap in the morning:
A nice little nap,
A sound little nap,
A dear little nap in the morning.
'Tis true, that gin toddy
Agrees with every body--
But charge me with lies and suborning,
If its pleasures are near
So sweet and so dear
As a sound little nap in the morning :
A snug little nap,
A nice little nap,
A sound little nap in the morning.
A segar, it is true,
And a chew of tobacco, too,
Are pleasures that are far above scorning;
But in the contrast,
They sink very fast,
When compared to a nap in the morning :
A sound little nap,
A hard-snoring nap
A nice little nap in the morning.
A bottle of ale
Will pall and grow stale,
And thicken the head without informing ;
But the mind receives a treat,
So rich and so sweet,
From the dreams of a nap in the morning :
A sound little nap,
A snug little nap,
A sweet little nap in the morning
MORPHEUS.
Though poetry has rain'd,
And its utmost powers strain'd.
In tobacco, snuff and toddy adorning ;
