400 BODIES SO FAR RECOVERED IN JAPAN 2,000 TROOPS ASSISTING LOCAL OFFICER IN SEARCH FOR MISSING PERSONS.

TOKYO, September 15-(AP)-

About four hundred bodies thus far have been recovered from the western part of the Island of Kiushiu which was struck by a typhoon and huge tidal wave on Tuesday.

Dispatches from the island state that 2000 troops are assisting local organizations in the search for the thousands of persons reported missing and in clearing up the debris from the towns and villages in Kumano prefectures, the center of the storm swept area.

A total of 500 fishing boats were reported to have been lost off Nagasaki with a loss of at least 25 fishermen.
