Mr. S. stated that he would do no such thing, but would on the contrary stay where he was as long as he pleased.
The case looked hopeless. It really seemed as though David would stay. But just at this juncture, unexpected assistance to Mr. L. arrived in the person of Mrs. L., who seized David by the shoulders and put him out of the door by main force. He scorned the idea, however, of being handled in that way by a woman, and with a perseverance, which would have gained him imperishable renown in a better cause, made frantic attempts to "bust in" the door.
The noise of many tongues, and the groans of the poor door, soon collected a curious crowd, which attracted the attention of officer Tracy, as that gentleman was sauntering round.
David was taken to the lock-up and, yesterday morning, fined by Judge Good ten dollars and costs.
