Essex North District. The twelfth trial for Representative to Congress took place on Monday last week, which terminated in no choice. The votes in 17 towns, were, for Kittredge 1137, Osgood 919, scattering 1051. The latter were generally cast for Mr. Cushing. It is time, high time, that this boy's play—nay, worse than boy's play—was done with in Essex North District. We beseech our friends there to consider the injury they are doing to a good cause, by their dissensions. When Cushing's friends suffered him to withdraw from the contest, they did all that could be asked of them. They did more than their opponents had done when their candidate received a minority of the National Republican votes. Viewing the matter in this light, we confidently expected that Kittredge, also, would withdraw, and that some new candidate would be substituted, who would unite the votes of both sections of the party. In this expectation however, we were disappointed. He has continued to stand as a candidate, and two more trials have been made, the latter leaving him farther from a choice than he was before. If he does not now withdraw, his friends ought to withdraw themselves from him, and put an end to the contest at once, by uniting in any good and suitable candidate that shall be offered them by the other section of the party.
