AMHERST

Amherst, Oct. 30 - Rev. C. F. Luther, pastor of the Second Congregational church, used for his sermon Sunday morning the same sermon which was preached by the pastor, Rev. Nathan Perkins, the first Sunday after the building was opened for use, late in the fall of 1839. At the same time there was exhibited the manuscript containing the address delivered by Mr. Perkins as he laid the corner stone of the new house on July 8, the manuscript also including his address at the laying of the corner stone of the Pelham church in the same year. It is recorded that the building was raised three days later, July 11, "without noise or accident and without the use of any intoxicating drink."
