NEWBURY-PORT. September 10.

We are informed that the following melancholy affair happened a few days since, at Moultonborough, in the State of New-Hampshire. A boy, about 8 years of age being sent after the cows, and tarrying much longer than was expected, his father at length went in pursuit of him—but what was his surprise, when just at the entrance of the woods he beheld a large bear devouring his child, who was yet able to cry out to him, "daddy, daddy do help me!" In attempting to rescue his son, he was so closely pursued by the bear, with the child crying in his mouth, that he was obliged to desist. The next morning some remains of the poor unhappy boy were found, and the bear lying by him—which they immediately killed and burnt to ashes.
