Full Text
Melancholy.
On Friday last, 8th inst., two young Misses, Helen Marr, daughter of Mr. Charles Russell of this city, and Adelaide, daughter of Mr. Robert B. Rogers, of Chelsea, Mass., the former aged 10 and the other about 11 years, were drowned in Mill Brook, near Sewall's Mill. They left the house of Mr. Russell in the morning and went into the woods to pick berries; and not returning at night, search was made for them but no traces of them were discovered until the next morning when their clothes were found on the rocks upon the margin of the stream. Soon afterwards their bodies were raked from the bottom of the stream, being found close together, and near the spot where their clothes were lying. It seems they undressed and went in to bathe, but the bottom was uneven and the depth of water deceived them. The water was about six feet deep where they were found. Mr. Russell and his lady were absent in the country at the time and did not return until Saturday evening. The two children were interred on Sunday morning at 9 o'clock. This is the second child Mr. R. has had drowned in the same place.—Eastern Times.
