Second Day's Session of the New York Convention-Routine Work.
New York, August 22.-At this morning's session of the federation of organized trades and labor unions of the United States and Canada, the legislative committee appointed last year at the Cleveland convention reported that encouraging progress had been made in the formation of local unions and in increasing the membership of unions previously founded. The report reviews the history of the labor agitation in the last year, and the efforts made to obtain legislation favorable to working men. It was recommended that a prize of fifty dollars be offered for the best essay on trades-unions and strikes, and also suggested that steps be taken to secure harmony and unanimity among all trades and labor organizations of the country.
