A very intelligent person assures that by a chymical analysis lately made by him of a great many sorts of snuff he has found them all adulterated in a manner the most destructive to health, some mixed with vitriol, and also with alum; others with rotten hemlock, the rind of tan, a dissolution of sublimate, or mercurial water. He observes that all these different ingredients may affect the brain, the stomach, and breast; that the most obstinate chronical disorders owe their origin to causes of this nature; and he exhorts to search for means to procure another sort of rappee snuff, entirely plain, simple, and less salutubrious, for the use of persons who are subject to that unwholesome, expensive, and uncleanly custom of taking snuff, which ought to be avoided or diminished by all sensible, cleanly, rational, and delicate persons. All parents, preceptors, &c. should be attentive not to permit youth that dirty prejudicial habit. The present of a snuff-box is the most useless and detrimental gift that can be made to a child, for many young persons have been induced to take Snuff from the vanity to show their boxes.
