Folks, we are sure having our share of the wind and no one notices every breeze like a guy suffering with hay fever. The wind fills the air with this damn Bermuda grass pollen, then the sneezing begins. I don't know who brought bermuda grass into this country, but whoever he or she was I know where they ought to be.
We shipped our first watermelons yesterday. A small batch, the price was very good. The watermelon crop over the valley is going to be about 40 per cent short, in my opinion. The melons are going to be extra good quality, good eating in other words. But the heavy winds have rolled the vines so much they rolled off most of the crown set.
I sometimes wonder if I ain't just a horse and buggy guy in a machine age. I just can't keep up with these new fangled taxes and laws. The idea of fellows going on a sit-down strike when they had to work a little for their grub away from the cool ocean breezes.
I'll be seein' you.
