Attorney General Ralph Rivers spoke on "The Responsibilities of Citizenship" this noon before members of the Juneau Kiwanis Club at their regular luncheon-meeting in the Baranof Hotel.
Mr. Rivers congratulated the Kiwanis on its organization and stated that its precept of "service to others" is basically the characteristic of "extraordinary citizenship."
"When a man does his job to the best of his ability, takes care of his family, his property and his local duties, he is a good citizen," the speaker said.
"However, when he reaches out to do more-expend a community service for which he does not stand to gain in a monetary fashion, he is entering the class of extraordinary citizenship."
Rivers enumerated ways in which a person may by his personal interests become a "good resident and citizen." He also mentioned service work in which a good resident and citizen becomes something more-a definite asset to his community and the residents who will come into the community later.
He particularly lauded the Kiwanis on its new play field project and its intention to sponsor a Girl Scout troop.
Miss Frances Paul appeared on the program today as guest pianist to accompany Kiwanis singing.
Neil L. Moore was introduced as a new member to the club, and was appointed club pianist.
