Eddie Duplisse Jumps from Moving Train and Gives Officer the Slip.
The officers of this city were on the lookout Sunday for a young man known as Eddie Duplisse, who is wanted in Bangor for larceny and who made a daring escape from a moving passenger train while in custody of a sheriff, who was taking his prisoner to Bangor.
Duplisse was found in Augusta and was being taken back to answer to the charge of larceny. When the train reached Newport the prisoner asked the officer to take off the handcuffs that he might smoke. The sheriff did so, but no sooner were the irons removed from the man's wrists than he made a bolt through the door and jumped the train, which was then moving at a good rate of speed. The officer, not daring to alight, kept on through to Bangor and immediately wired places between that city and Waterville. The last information received was that Duplisse was on his way to this city. A description was received at headquarters. His age is given as 22 years. He is 5½ feet in height and weighs 145 pounds. When last seen he had on a black suit, light soft hat and low shoes.
