Full Text

In the vicinity of Victoria several outrages have been committed by the Indians. The British Colonist says: Life is not safe on the Esquimalt road, and we are in daily dread of some fearful tragedy occurring which will awaken even the authorities from their criminal lethargy, and cause a thrill of horror and indignation to run through the community. The appearance of a policeman in the vicinity of one of the lodges is a signal for a general attack being made upon him, and not an officer can now be found in town with sufficient hardihood to serve a warrant in the neighborhood.
