The Condition of Properties in the Territory of Montana,
And the Mineral Producing Regions Generally West of the
Mississippi.
Montana.
The Clipper mill east of Meaderville has been shut down.
A smelter is to be erected at the lower works of the Anaconda Co.
The Elkhorn mine in Jefferson county is having its usual trouble with water.
Active development work has been commenced on the Elkhorn Queen, Jefferson county.
New strikes are reported from Canyon Creek, about twenty miles northeast of Wardner, Idaho.
Fully 500 prospectors are reported as being in the country south of the Highland district, Missoula county.
The hoisting works and pump on the Legal Tender are to be placed on the Peerless Jennie mine, at Rimini.
It is reported that a new discovery in Belt Range gives ore, of which the battery assays run into the thousands.
The Portland syndicate to whom the Fay Templeton, in the Coeur d'Alene, was bonded, have refused to take it.
Shipments from the Sierra Nevada mine in the Coeur d'Alene to the reduction works at Portland have begun.
The main shaft on the Orphan Girl near Butte is down 260 feet and a crosscut shows the ledge to be 50 feet in width.
A new strike has been made on the Balloon, on West Eagle creek. The 12 foot vein prospects well in free gold all across the lead.
Mines near Marysville are to be operated by a newly incorporated company called the St. Louis mining and milling company of Montana.
A temporary stoppage of operations at the lower works of the Anaconda company have been caused by the non-arrival of lumber and machinery.
W. A. Clark's Tuscarora, lying some two miles northwest of Argenta, is to be developed by means of an open cut 25 feet wide and by a shaft. The ore runs from 20 to 60 per cent lead.
The Gregory Consolidated mining company sold at suit of mortgage bondholders was bought in by the plaintiffs for $300,000 which was about the amount of their claim.
The Hudson mining company, of Neihart, has closed down. The reason as given by the Husbandman is that though the concentrator concentrates the ore does not.
The Edna Placer mining company are preparing to commence active operations on their Trout creek claim in Missoula county. The company have 160 acres of ground believed to be very rich.
The contract for the big tailing ditch of the Anaconda company which will extend from the new concentrator to the Deer Lodge river, was let to Mr. Jesse Miller. It will be 12 feet wide and 5 deep.
It is rumored that the Revenue mine at Richmond Flats, near Georgetown, has been bought by Boston capitalists for $500,000. The vein carries low grade gold ore, and its present development consists of a shaft 80 to 90 feet deep.
A new company, consisting of G. W. Irvin, Marcus Daly, A. Wartenweiler, and F. E. Sargent, is reported as formed to work a group of mines at the head of Grasshopper creek and Wisdom river, Beaverhead county, which they have acquired for the sum of $50,000.
The Sweathouse mine, south of the Highland district, Missoula county, owned by Hauser, Holter, Hackett & Blake, has a tunnel 1,500 feet and shows five feet of high grade silver ore. Several thousand tons of ore are now on the dump and being shipped to Wickes for reduction. New hoisting works are being erected.
Husbandman: There is considerable activity in the town lot business at Toston. That place now bids fair to become one of the leading towns of the territory for the reduction and smelting of ores. Millions of tons of Castle mountain ores will be smelted there. It is regretted that the smelter was not located at Townsend as that point is quite as accessible to the mines.
Butte Miner, July 1: Albert Nickel and August Miller arrived in the city from their mine, the Seven Star, on Flint creek, eight miles from Georgetown. They have started two shafts, one of which is down ten and the other fifteen feet. Prospects at the bottom of each are very encouraging. The ledge runs between four and five feet. They brought home some very rich specimens which are entirely covered with the precious metals.
Miscellaneous.
The Ontario mining company, Utah, will pay, June 30, their 133d dividend of fifty cents a share, aggregating $75,000 making $450,000 paid this year.
