DD Units To Switch Home Ports 1 Jan.
The Chief of Naval Operations has approved a reorganization of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet Destroyer Force effective the first day of the new year.
Each destroyer division, where possible, will be a composite unit consisting of one 931-class, one FRAM I and two FRAM II destroyer types.
This new division will possess a flexibility and versatility that is required for modern destroyer operations in anti-submarine and anti-air warfare.
Incident to the reorganization several homeport changes will be made effective 1 Jan. 1962.
Changes
The Mayport, Fla. based MASSEY, MOALE, C. S. SPERRY and INGRAHAM will move to Newport, while C. R. WARE and WARRINGTON, homeported in New York incident to their FRAM, will be based at Mayport and Newport respectively.
The destroyer USS S. B. ROBERTS, which has been in FRAM overhaul at Philadelphia, will be based here. The Newport-based McCAFFERY, HARWOOD and F. J. HALSTEAD will be shifted to Mayport.
