UAW Vets Program
"Keep up the good work," said Lieut. Andrew Kalls, USN, giving his approval to the program of the UAW Vets Department following a visit to International headquarters. Kalls is spending a well-earned furlough with his family in Detroit. Assigned to ship salvage, he's seen action at Le Havre, Cherbourg and Omaha Beach - he was in the Normandy invasion before H-Hour on D-Day.
"As a member of Gar Wood Local 250, UAW-CIO, Detroit, I'm proud of the work the union has done while I've been away. It's good to know that the union is protecting my seniority until the Navy decides my services are no longer required.
However, I certainly do not want any "superduper" or special seniority.
That's not what I am fighting for."
