Correspondence of The Journal.
The showers of rain which fell in this community Saturday evening were very acceptable as it was getting exceedingly dry.
Mr. Thomas Morris is very sick with typhoid fever. A trained nurse came down from Charlotte Sunday morning to attend him.
Mrs. Mattle Smith and son, Master Glenn of Ft. Mill, S. C., R. F. D., spent a few days last week with the former's sister, Mrs. I. D. Boyd.
Miss Wilma Broom spent last week as the guest of her sister, Mrs. Robert Riggins of Providence.
Mr. Reuben Tomberlin is right sick with malaria fever.
Mr. Avert Helms has also been on the sick list for several days.
Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Boyd and little son T. A., Jr., are visiting relatives in lower Steel Creek.
Mrs. Lucy Hunnicutt and children Harold and Dixie are spending some time with relatives in this community, after which they will return to their home at Columbia, S. C.
A number of the young people of the village joined a seining party from Stallings Friday and spent the day at Stewart's mill. They reported a fine time and some very nice carp were caught. The young crowd was chaperoned by Mesdames Paxton, Wilson and Dry.
The Ladies' Aid Society of the Methodist church gave a sock social on Saturday night, the 27th of July, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. A. Covell. It was a most enjoyable affair as well as being a benefit to the society. Refreshments consisting of ice cream and cake were served.
Mrs. Emily Thompson has returned to her home on R. F. D. No. 5, Yorkville, S. C., after visiting relatives in this neighborhood.
Misses Martha, Nancy, Arabella and Davie Boyd have returned home after a two weeks' stay with relatives in York county, S. C., and also in Steel Creek.
Prof. J. G. Griffin of Marion, who is superintending the teachers' institute in Monroe, spent Wednesday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Broom.
