New Criminal Court-Room.

The committee appointed by the County Court to select a location for the new Criminal Court-room has decided in favor of the Jefferson Block, at the corner of Jefferson and Second streets.

This location does very well so far as a central point is concerned, and it will be a decided improvement on the dingy and dilapidated concern used as a court-room at present. Another advantage will be the fact that the grand jury, when in session, can see the peculiar game of keno played in all its peculiarities by looking across the street; indeed, from three several localities the cry of the callers, as the lucky numbers roll out of the drum, can be heard distinctly by the Court, grand and petit jurors after dark. Within the sound of the voice of the Court crier, there will be five or six faro banks in operation where the disciples of the Egyptian monarch while the dreamy hours away. Within a few blocks a number of questionable establishments flourish like exotics. This is a good location for a Criminal Court. In the midst of vice of every description, the Court can reach out the strong arm of the law and crush out gambling houses and dens of infamy. It will be fighting crime on its own ground, and we have no doubt that it will be successful in driving from its vicinity the frequenters of the haunts and dens above mentioned.

In this view of the case the selection of a court-room location has been wise and strategic--a display of wisdom worthy of Solomon and a piece of strategy worthy of Von Moltke.
