COMMUNICATION

The undersigned officers would like to express to the community their thanks for the hours of help from townspeople and the military personnel in the recent emergency search. It was a wonderful showing of community goodwill also on the part of the Mining Company, Alaska Road Commission and merchants who donated bread, sandwich meats, donuts, and kept their places of business open to make hot coffee for the searchers all night long.

Other people too deserve thanks for contributing food from their homes.

We would like to impress upon the people that their police and fire departments are service units for the people of Nome and the surrounding area.

The word "police" means city, territorial and federal (U.S. marshal's office), in which departments men are trained for all kinds of emergencies that may develop.

Always remember that the officer who gives you a ticket for "running" a stop sign may be the same fellow that rushes a broken body to the hospital and stands ready to give his life blood to save your life if it be needed.

Any emergency, no matter how small, should be reported at the first opportunity to the nearest police agency, because we have at our disposal the means to cope with the situation.

If the local police cannot handle the situation, the facilities of the Territorial Police Dept. can be called on day and night. Also the full facilities of emergency radio gear of all types with trained officers stand ready to move into the scene.

A simple phone call will speed the action that may save a life, where hours and minutes count.
