The Guards of the Cincinnati Fortifications Fired Upon.—The Cincinnati Gazette says that the guards at the different fortifications erected for the defense of the city, have been fired at several times during the past week, and once on this side of the river! The detachment in charge of the batteries on Price's Hill were somewhat surprised on Friday night, to hear simultaneously the report of a musket and the whizzing of a ball close to their ears. There can be no mistake about this, for the ball struck near them, and was afterward picked up, partially flattened. Those wise conservatives who ridiculed the idea of fortifying the city at all, may now see the use of the big guns and pickets to guard them.

How refreshing it would be to catch one of these bush-whackers, gun in hand! Does anybody think he would have the oath administered to him, and then be turned loose? Hardly.
